1.     Visit the Gallagher Bike Skills Park at the Avantidrome
10min drive from Earthstead Villas.
Why not visit the Gallagher bike skills park and have a look around NZ's home of cycling. This bike playground caters for all ages and abilities. The Avantidrome complex includes a cafe so parents can enjoy a coffee while the kids have some good old fashioned fun on their bikes. Or join your children on a ride along the Te Awa track beside the beautiful Waikato River.

The Bike Park is open all hours (7 days a week, 24 hours a day), and entry is free.
Traffic lights in the course operate between 8am and 5pm.

2.     Watch a movie at The Tivoli Cinema in Cambridge
The Tivoli Cinema is an independent Cinema established in Cambridge in 2014. Featuring a mix of films from around the world shown in wonderful upmarket state of the art theatres.

The owners, Shane and Karen, have not only brought their passion for good film to the Waipa area, but also their industry experience, giving Cambridge a true boutique cinema.   A wide range of quality films are shown and usually there is something to suit every taste.

Also serving artisan wines, beers and ice cream, outstanding coffee, popular anti pasto platters and an assortment of delights from local bakers.

3.     Check out the Boutique town of Cambridge.
5min drive from Earthstead Villas.
Cambridge township is a real treasure, with speciality shops and cafes offering interesting alternatives to the usual chain stores and major outlets.  Antiques, designer fashion, (pre-loved and new), boutique gift and décor stores to name just a few.  

There are also many wonderful places to eat, from relaxed cafes to fine dining restaurants.   Try the famous ice creams at GelatAmore, or for the best sushi in the Waikato, visit Kisso Sushi.  (We've had many guests staying with us at Earthstead, just so they can visit this restaurant.)

4.     Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust
30 min drive from Earthstead Villas.
Maungatautari is an exciting place to visit – with 47kms of predator proof fence enclosing 3400 hectares in a sea of pastureland, it is the largest ecological island on mainland New Zealand. 

With the eradication of mammalian predators largely complete, native bird populations are being re-introduced and trees and ferns are able to grow uninhibited.   This provides for a surprising new environment as the balance of species develops.

5.     Have your photo taken on the famous bronze horse at the Town Hall.
5 min drive from Earthstead Villas.
Leading equine sculptor, Michelle Farrell, was commissioned to sculpt a life-size horse and foal in recognition of the close relationship between Cambridge and the equine industry . 

A huge undertaking, this work was created using traditional sculptural techniques involving all the challenges of modelling and casting on a large scale.

Now literally hundreds of visitors have had their photo taken with the horse and foal, and of course children love it especially.

6.     Walk around Lake Te Koutu and feed the ducks. (Take your dog, if you have one!)
5 min drive from Earthstead Villas.
Since1880 Te Koutu park has been an integral part of the Cambridge experience, and has become well known all over New Zealand as a great place to stretch your legs and break your journey when traveling along SH 1.    

The paths are named after the chairmen of the Domain Board whose brain-child this park was, and trees of note are the Cedar of Lebanon, kauris, large chestnuts, oaks and planes, and of course the imposing eucalyptus towering above the carpark. 

Te Koutu is a dog friendly park, and dogs can exercise leash free in the lower tracks of the park. Click here to find other areas to exercise your dog.

7.     Have coffee at The Lily Pad Cafe and visit The Garden Art Studio
3 min drive from Earthstead Villas.
The Lily Pad Café offers great coffee, an a la carte menu for breakfast and lunch and fresh homemade cakes in the cabinet for dessert, morning and afternoon tea. 

Everything from eggs benedict and fresh salmon, salads and roasted pork belly -  there is always something for everyone. 

Being part of the coeliac group Lily Pad Cafe offer a delicious range of gluten free food.  They also have old coffee grinds available for you to take home for your garden.  

The Lily Pad Café is a ‘destination’, with the Garden Art Studio located adjacent and a relaxing, country feel.

8.     Visit the Cambridge Museum
4min drive from Earthstead Villas.
The quirky old Cambridge Museum, housed in the former courthouse, has plenty of pioneer relics, a military history room and a scale model of the local Te Totara Pa before it was wiped out.

They have an extensive collection of artifacts and archives relating to the history of Cambridge, its districts and people, and a team of willing and enthusiastic volunteers. 

Open 7 days  a week from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 
Entry is free but a donation is always appreciated.

9.     Visit the Cambridge Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings
5min drive from Earthstead Villas.
The Cambridge Farmers' Market offers good , honest , farm-fresh products plus value-added produce and food culminating in a good old fashioned, down to earth 100% New Zealand-made shopping experience.

10.       Bike or walk the Karapiro section of the Waikato River Trails
25min drive from Earthstead Villas 
Easily accessible from SH1, the Lake Karapiro section of the Waikato River Trails  is proving popular with visitors looking for a one day cycling or tramping adventure. The Trail starts 4km from SH1 on Horahora Road. 

From the Pokaiwhenua Carpark, the 4km of roadside Trail is a popular warm up for keen cyclists. The Trail then pops into Little Waipa Domain and meanders lakeside through to the Hydro village of Arapuni. 

This section of Trail is an intermediate grade with a couple of short, steeper sections. The trail is wide and smooth, and provides a great day of fun for cyclists and walkers.
