The real weight of food waste with Portia Woodman-Wickliffe
Our partnership with KiwiHarvest
Every year, Kiwi households are responsible for at least 115 kilograms of good food going to waste. To tackle the problem head-on, HelloFresh and KiwiHarvest have loaded up a rugby scrum machine with 115 kilograms of rescued food waste and challenged Rugby World Champion Portia Woodman-Wickliffe to push it.

How to reduce your food waste
Score points with the planet and your purse with meal planning
It’s important to be mindful of what you’re putting in your body, and your fridge! By planning your meals in advance, you can make sure that nothing goes to waste.
Portion with a purpose
Not only is portioning one of the best ways to avoid overeating – it can save you money and reduce your food waste too. HelloFresh makes portioning easy, as they come with pre-portioned ingredients – meaning everything in your box ends up on your plate.
Store food sustainably
Proper storage can add days, weeks or months to the life of your ingredients. Keep healthy snacks and food with short-shelf lives at the front of the fridge to make sure you reach for them first.

First in, first out rule
The final rule is ensuring you are using up older ingredients first. Put the older food in front or on top so that you use them first, and pop new food to the back of the fridge so you are encouraged to eat it first. You can even label your food with the dates purchased or “eat me first” before you store them in the fridge.

Reduce, reuse and recycle with HelloFresh
Cardboard and meal kit bags
Our boxes and our meal kit bags, including the stickers, are all 100% recyclable. To dispose of them, simply flatten your box, empty your meal kit bags and pop them all into your kerbside recycling bin.
Ice packs
You can reuse your ice packs or empty the liquid into your general waste, then clean the plastic packaging and recycle it at your local soft plastics bin.
Soft plastics
The plastic packets used for your meats, veggies and herbs help to keep them fresh and hygienic. Once they're empty, clean and dry, you can recycle them at your local soft plastics bin.
